Food Week
This week so far has been a week full of food! Monday night was we had dinner with Joao, Bernardo (the area managers here in Portugal), and Dr. and Mrs. Page from BYU. We ate at an octopus restaurant and I have to say it was so much better than I thought it would be. My stomach did drop when the plate got put in front of me and the first bite was a huge fight against a bad mental mentality but, in the end it was very good and I was very full by the end of it. This is one of those things I love about getting to know a different culture. You are “forced” (or should force yourself) to try new things whether it's food, language, or habits. It honestly widens your perspectives and gives you a greater insight to a new world you never knew existed. After dinner we ended up getting some acai near by to end the night.
Tuesday, the Pages took us (Me, Parker, Josh and Trip) to a burger place (number four on trip advisor) that was outstanding. The put a piece of picanha on top of the beef patty and added a special sauce that was just amazing. It might have been one of the best burgers I have had in a long time. Than for dessert they have this “key lime pie” thing that is more of a cake. But the crust was crushed oreo and honestly the key lime oreo combo was to die for. Very smooth and creamy, it was a perfect way to end the meal. They place was called o Bordallos.
Than on Wednesday, Joao took us to another very high class and modern restaurant here in Cascais called Restaurante Hífen. It was another place that served tapas (appetizers) but they all had a very unique and modern twist to them. They were all absolutely outstanding. It was cool to taste some different combinations like fried egg with this guacamole like sauce and bread. Than they had these amazing fried green beans with an apple mustard that was super good. Honestly, this week has been an amazing week of food!
But to the more important side of things, Shadowing at the hospital!! This week I am shadowing the wonderful doctors of cardiology. Well, there is only one right now. One jest left two weeks ago and the other is at a conference so I am sticking with Dr. Carla and the cardio technicians. It has actually been a blast to be able to learn how to read eco graphs as well as understand a little better how the hospital works. Dr. Carla is awesome because she really took the time to talk to me and explain everything. There was also the head technician who was absolutely amazing and I ended up following her a lot while Dr. Carla was doing paperwork. I really do like the heart because it is very specific and very important to the body.
Dr. Carla was also explaining a little bit about her schooling and how she think the public hospital system works. It is always interesting to see the viewpoints of the different doctors. Over all, this week has been jam packed and full. I haven't even had time to go to the gym but overall very happy with this week so far and tomorrow is excursion day because it a holiday here in portugal!
